Ryan Spain has spent his life serving the community he calls home. As a lifelong Peorian, husband, father, economic development leader, and public servant, Ryan understands the challenges facing Central Illinois families because he has seen them firsthand.
​
Ryan attended District 150 schools and graduated from Richwoods High School. He went on to earn degrees in political science and speech communication from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with Bronze Tablet Honors. He later received his MBA from Bradley University.
His commitment to public service began at the local level. In 2007, Ryan became the youngest at-large member elected to the Peoria City Council. During nearly a decade on the council, he worked alongside residents, employers, and community leaders to strengthen neighborhoods, encourage investment, and create new opportunities throughout the region.

In January 2017, Ryan began representing the 73rd District in the Illinois House. Since then, he has brought a practical, solutions-driven approach to issues affecting the people of Illinois. He has remained focused on protecting taxpayers, supporting local employers, strengthening communities, and making Illinois a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Ryan’s professional experience has also shaped the way he serves. As Vice President of Economic Development for OSF HealthCare, he has seen how decisions made in Springfield affect employers, workers, healthcare organizations, and the communities they serve. That perspective has reinforced his belief that government should listen carefully, operate responsibly, and pursue solutions that deliver meaningful results.
Ryan’s service has earned recognition from organizations across Illinois. He has repeatedly been named a Friend of Agriculture by the Illinois Farm Bureau and received the 2018 Leadership Award for Improving Telehealth Policy. In 2025, ABATE of Illinois and the Illinois State Ambulance Association each named him Legislator of the Year, while the Illinois Credit Union League honored him with its Legislative Champion Award. He was also selected as one of Central Illinois’ 40 Leaders Under Forty and served as an Edgar Fellow.

Ryan and his wife, Ashley, are raising their two daughters in the community that helped shape him. He remains committed to delivering principled, practical leadership and fighting for an Illinois where the next generation has every opportunity to succeed.
